By air
Rajmata Vijaya Raje Scindia Airport (Gwalior Airport)
Domestic airport with flights from Delhi (1 hour), Mumbai, Bangalore, and Hyderabad. Airlines include IndiGo, SpiceJet, and Air India. Taxis to city center cost ₹200-400.
By rail
Gwalior Junction
Major stop on the Delhi-Mumbai trunk route. Shatabdi Express from Delhi (3 hours, ₹700-1200), Gatimaan Express (limited stops). Well-connected to Agra (1.5 hours), Jhansi (1.5 hours), Bhopal (4.5 hours), and Mumbai (12-14 hours).
By road
NH 44 & NH 46
Excellent highway connections. Regular Volvo buses from Delhi ISBT. State buses from Agra, Jhansi, Bhopal. Private taxis from Delhi cost ₹5000-7000.
Getting Around
Auto-rickshaw
Most common mode of local transport. Available throughout the city. Always negotiate fare before boarding.
City bus
MPSRTC city buses connect major areas including Railway Station, Lashkar, Hazira, and Gwalior Fort.
Taxi / Cab
Ola and Uber available in Gwalior. Pre-paid taxis at railway station and airport.
Tonga (horse cart)
Traditional horse-drawn carriages still operate near the old city and Hazira area. A unique way to see the old town.
Walking
Jai Vilas Palace, Hazira (Tansen & Ghaus tombs), and Lashkar markets are walkable. Fort requires a vehicle to reach the top.
