Orchha

A hidden gem of Bundelkhand, Orchha is a medieval town frozen in time on the banks of the Betwa River. Founded by the Bundela king Rudra Pratap in 1531, it features stunning palaces, temples, and cenotaphs that see a fraction of the tourists they deserve. Datia (Datia Palace)

Home to the magnificent Datia Palace (Bir Singh Palace), a 7-storey Bundela-era palace built by Bir Singh Deo in the 17th century. Rising dramatically from a hill, this virtually unvisited architectural wonder combines Hindu and Mughal styles. The palace's interconnected rooms, courtyards, and hidden passages are an explorer's dream.

Shivpuri / Madhav National Park

The former summer capital of the Scindia rulers, Shivpuri is home to Madhav National Park — a 354 sq km wildlife sanctuary with deer, nilgai, wild boar, and occasional leopard sightings. The park also features the scenic Sakhya Sagar and Madhav Sagar lakes. The Scindia royal cenotaphs (chhatris) in white marble are another highlight.

Agra / Taj Mahal

The city of the Taj Mahal is just 2 hours from Gwalior, making it an easy day trip. Beyond the iconic marble mausoleum, Agra offers the massive Agra Fort, the abandoned Mughal city of Fatehpur Sikri (40 km further), and Mehtab Bagh for sunset views of the Taj across the Yamuna.

Jhansi
